LAGUNA HILLS : Resolution Opposes Airport at El Toro
The City Council on Tuesday decided to go on record opposing the November ballot initiative that calls for building a commercial airport at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.
The council’s decision to oppose the airport initiative was unanimous. The adopted resolution faults the initiative for removing important planning issues from the El Toro Reuse Planning Authority and placing them in the hands of voters.
The reuse authority includes the five county supervisors, three Irvine City Council members and one Lake Forest City Council member. It is currently conducting studies on alternative uses for the base.
In other action, the council approved placing a stop sign at Hon Avenue and Camberwell Street and a traffic signal at the Paseo de Valencia entrance to Laguna Hills High School.
In approving the new traffic signal, which will cost $100,000, the council also called for a review of the traffic signal priority list. Currently, the light at the high school ranks third in priority behind two other budgeted traffic signals. The other two signals are scheduled for Paseo de Valencia at Calle de los Caballeros and for Alicia Parkway at Via Lomas.
