Selbe to Coach at Cypress Again
John Selbe is returning as football coach at Cypress High, replacing Jack Jensen, who become an assistant coach.
Selbe, also the school’s athletic director, was the Centurion coach for eight seasons, from 1985-92. He had a 24-43-3 record during that time.

The defending champion Bullfrogs will open the 1994 Roller Hockey International playoffs on the road at San Jose next Thursday, the team said Wednesday. ESPN2 will broadcast the game.
The second game of the home-away series will be Aug. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at The Pond of Anaheim.
Tickets for the home game will be $6, $12 and $25, and will be available weekdays beginning Friday at The Pond box office and Ticketmaster outlets.
If the series is split after two games, a 12-minute “mini-game” will follow to determine the winner.

Former Tustin High pitcher Brian Helsper has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at San Jose State, Tustin Coach Tim O’Donoghue said.
Helsper was 7-1 for the Tillers last season and was named to the All-Sea View League first team.

SoCal of Tustin advanced three teams to the semifinals of the national Junior Olympic water polo championships at Long Beach State. Goalie Ryan Brown of Foothill High had nine saves to lead the 17-and-older team to an 11-4 victory over Commerce. Brian Brown of Foothill had five goals to lead the 15-and-younger team to an 8-7 victory over Concord. The SoCal 13-and-younger team also advanced to the semifinals, scheduled for Friday morning at Long Beach State.
Corona del Mar’s 13-under team lost to Long Beach Wilson, 10-4, at Wilson and was eliminated from the championship bracket.
