SAN PEDRO : Detention Center Named Among Top in Nation
The San Pedro Service Processing Center has been named one of the nation’s top detention facilities by the American Correctional Assn.
In becoming the third U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service facility to receive the award, the San Pedro center received a perfect score in meeting the ACA’s mandatory standards, and 99.13% in the non-mandatory standards, INS spokesman Rico Cabrera said. The study included a review of food service, training and lighting at the 450-bed facility.
The former home of the INS Western Regional Office underwent a $14-million renovation and was reopened as a detention center in 1991, Cabrera said.
