FULLERTON : Students to Take Part in Test of Medication
Cal State Fullerton is participating in a worldwide study to evaluate medication used for treating oral herpes, commonly known as cold sores.
A few students have already signed up for the study, and the Student Health and Counseling Center will be recruiting more subjects once the fall semester begins Aug. 25.
The goal is to get 40 patients to enroll in the experiment.
The study is a double-blind trial in which neither the patients nor the doctors know who is being treated with a new cream manufactured by Burroughs Wellcome Co. of North Carolina; another medication now in common use, treatment or a placebo cream, officials said.
Burroughs is giving the university about $36,000 for participating in the trial.
