Pacific Sunwear Reports Rise in Profit
Pacific Sunwear of California Inc., an Anaheim retailer of young men’s casual wear, said profit for its latest fiscal quarter totaled $895,000, or 17 cents a share, 9% higher than earnings of $820,000, or 16 cents a share, for the same period a year earlier. Sales for the company’s second quarter, which ended July 31, rose 63% to $20.7 million from $12.7 million. The company said the sales increase resulted from opening 48 stores in the past year. Year-to-date profit was up 11% to $1.1 million, or 20 cents a share, from $956,000, or 19 cents a share, for the first half of the previous fiscal year. Six-month sales increased 53% to $35.9 million from $23.4 million.
