Advanced Micro Devices to Build Plant in Germany: The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company plans a $1.3-billion facility that will employ about 1,400 people in the eastern German city of Dresden, authorities said. Germany’s federal economics minister, Guenter Rexrodt, made the announcement in a news release, though the Dresden-based Saxony state government said the decision was awaiting approval of the company’s board Sept. 14. An Advanced Micro Devices Inc. spokesman would say only that the company was engaged in preliminary discussions with Saxony officials. The spokesman would not give details; he said the company was “exploring a whole range of options” for its next plant, which will be devoted to microprocessor production.
