Fighting Rabies
The city of Los Angeles is offering clinics through September at which dogs can receive anti-rabies vaccinations for $4. Dog licenses may also be available at some of the clinics, sponsored by the Department of Animal Regulation. Licenses cost $20 for unsterilized dogs and $10 for sterilized dogs. Proof of sterilization is required. California law requires that all dogs over the age of 4 months be inoculated against rabies. The city cannot grant a dog license without a current vaccination certificate.
Clinics will be held in recreation center parking lots and will offer optional vaccinations against common canine diseases.
Dog owners should not feed or provide water to their pets for five to six hours before the vaccinations, and should use a collar and leash. Clinic information may be obtained 24 hours a day at (213) 893-8566.
