COSTA MESA : Fatal Shooting Case Under Investigation

Costa Mesa police detectives Wednesday searched a house in the 800 block of Victoria Street, where a 30-year-old woman was found shot to death earlier in the week.

Police Capt. Tom Lazar identified the woman as Roxanne Michelle Martin, 30, of Costa Mesa.

“The case is wide open at this point,” Lazar said. “We have no suspects, but we’re not ruling anybody out. Anybody could be a suspect.”

Police would not say whether Martin lived there, nor how she knew the owner, Anthony J. Kubis Jr., 37. Nor would they say whether Kubis lives at the house.

Martin’s body was found Monday, shot several times.

Police requested a search warrant early Tuesday morning when they could not get permission from Kubis to search the house, Lazar said.

Neighbors who live in the area told police they heard gunshots Monday night but didn’t take it seriously enough to call police, police spokesman George Wilson said.

One neighbor said she was still afraid because no one has been arrested in the slaying.

“This is the first time anything like this has happened, and I’ve lived here for 19 years,” said Marisa Quintana, 19, who lives a block away.
