BRENTWOOD : City Council Seeks to Stem Traffic Near Simpson Estate

The Los Angeles City Council took measures Tuesday to ease traffic and parking problems caused by gawkers at O.J. Simpson’s Brentwood estate.

The council authorized closures of North Rockingham Avenue to through traffic under certain conditions, and limited street parking in the area to residents who buy city-issued permits.

Residents of the affluent Westside community have complained about the gawkers since the June 12 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Lyle Goldman made Brentwood a household name.

At the council’s direction, police will set up temporary barricades on Rockingham to regulate the flow of pedestrians and vehicles. The barriers will remain there for at least 18 months.

The Transportation Department will establish a preferential parking district only if two-thirds of the residents sign petitions in support of the plan.
