OXNARD : State Beach Parking Fees to Start Saturday

Visitors used to parking at Oxnard State Beach Park for free will be in for an unpleasant surprise starting this weekend.

Beginning Saturday, Oxnard will charge those who park on the premises 50 cents per hour or $3 for the full day. The money will be used to maintain the park and adjacent beach area.

“It’s cheaper than other beaches,” said Oxnard Parks Supt. Michael Henderson. “We’re just starting out, and we don’t want to scare people away. I think it is lower than Ventura or Hueneme.”

The decision to charge parking fees actually was made before the beach park opened in 1988, which explains the guard stand at the entrance of the 300-car parking lot, Henderson said.

“The police will be out there enforcing it,” Henderson said. “They will be out there on a regular basis.”
