The Texas Rangers and Pittsburgh Pirates moved to save money by calling up minor league players, who will not be paid as long as the major league strike continues.
The Rangers brought up outfielders David Hulse and Rob Ducey from triple-A Oklahoma City, and Pittsburgh recalled left-handed pitcher Randy Tomlin from triple-A Buffalo and put him on the 15-day disabled list. Tomlin had been on the disabled list at Buffalo and hasn’t pitched since July 20.
