Darren Little, a 6-7 forward who started 20 games last year for the Cal State Fullerton basketball team, has failed to meet the university’s academic standards and has been dismissed from school.

Coach Brad Holland confirmed Friday that Little will be lost for his senior season because his grade-point average for the past academic year fell below university standards and he was not readmitted for the fall semester.

Little was the team’s third leading scorer last season as a junior, averaging 11.7 points. “Darren certainly was a potential starter for us this year,” Holland said. “But we wish him well, and hope he goes back to school somewhere, and eventually can play one more year.”

Little, who played in high school at Quitman, Ga., and at Palomar College in San Marcos, also was third on the team in rebounding. He shot 42.1% from the field and 56.1% on free throws.

This marks the second consecutive year that the Titans have lost a potential starter because of academic problems. Guard Don Leary also was declared ineligible last fall.
