Boeing Wins Commitments for New 737: The company announced plans for a stretched version of its 737 jet and said it has obtained commitments from four customers for 40 planes at a total price of nearly $2 billion. Boeing Co. also announced four firm orders for its 767-300ER jetliner--valued at $384 million--that will be leased to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. The new 737-800 will be 9 feet, 2 inches longer than the 737-400 and will carry from 164 to 189 passengers. First deliveries are expected in 1998.
