Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Man Found Dead Atop Phone Pole
PALMDALE — A 34-year-old Palmdale man died of unknown causes Monday after he climbed 40 feet up a telephone pole outside his home and tried to affix a television antenna, authorities said.
The man, whose name was not released, was found attached by climbing equipment to the pole in the 3600 block of 82nd Street East shortly after 3 p.m., said Jeff Ziegler of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Ziegler said the man was dead when rescue workers reached him. The man, who lived across the street, used climbing equipment to make his way up the pole, but Ziegler said he was not an employee of a telephone company.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
“We know it was not an electrocution because there was no electricity at the pole,” Ziegler said.
