Levi Seeks FTC OK on Retail Venture: Levi Strauss & Co. petitioned the Federal Trade Commission as part of its previously announced deal with retailer Designs Inc. of Chestnut Hill, Mass. The joint venture would open 35 to 50 Original Levi’s stores in 11 Northeastern states and the District of Columbia. The San Francisco-based apparel maker is asking the FTC to modify a 1978 consent decree Levi entered into to settle complaints of anti-competitive pricing practices. Designs Inc. has already opened eight of the Original Levi’s stores.
