Complaint Derided
Ethel Sulkis’ complaint (Letter to the Editor, Aug. 16) that various forces have lined up to deny her the opportunity to vote for the Weldon Canyon Landfill ballot initiative is not only ludicrous, it completely ignores the truth behind the entire landfill initiative charade.
This initiative would actually direct the county to nullify the constitutional protection of many laws and agencies. In simplest terms, if the courts ultimately do eliminate this initiative from the November ballot, thus preventing Ms. Sulkis from voting on it, numerous safeguards that attempt to preserve a good measure of our quality of life will have been preserved.
On the other hand, I can’t believe that voting for this particularly destructive ballot initiative, and therefore obliterating these same vital safeguards, is what Ms. Sulkis (or anyone conned into signing the initiative) was aware of or even wants for the county.
