Datum Inc. in Anaheim has received a $1-million contract from Lockheed Corp. to provide timing equipment for the construction of Milstar, a military satellite communications system. Lockheed is the primary contractor on the Milstar project.

Datum designs and manufactures frequency and timing products for telecommunications equipment, satellite systems and computer network synchronization. The Milstar system, to be used by the four branches of the military, is expected to be impenetrable by hostile forces to provide more reliable communication.

Datum expects to deliver its equipment to Lockheed by late 1994 or early 1995. Lockheed expects to have four Milstar satellites in orbit by the year 2004.
