An early morning traffic accident Thursday knocked out power to more than 2,000 Southern California Edison Co. customers in Buena Park and Cypress, but most of the service was restored within an hour, an Edison spokesman said.

Just after 6 a.m., a woman driving a pickup truck hit an Edison power pole at Ball Road and Holder Street, according to Buena Park police. The driver, who was treated at the scene for minor injuries, was not cited, Buena Park police Sgt. Robert Chaney said.

At least 2,250 Edison customers, including a nearby commercial area, a church and an elementary school lost power.

“We did everything we possibly could to restore the power as soon as possible,” said Edison spokesman Tony Aguilar. “There was a tremendous amount of damage.”

While Edison crews worked to repair the damage, “we put in some temporary lines to bring on most of the commercial customers, and at the same time brought on Dickerson Elementary School,” Aguilar said.

By 5:30 p.m., Aguilar said, power had been completely restored to the affected area.
