Moorpark Backs Bid for Vote on Landfill
The Moorpark City Council voted 4 to 1 to support a bid to put the Weldon Canyon landfill initiative back on November’s ballot.
Moorpark is the first city to vote in support of the appeal, filed by Taconic Resources of San Diego, of a Superior Court ruling that removed the initiative from the ballot. The judge ruled that the initiative was being misused to grant land rights to a private firm and would create inconsistencies in county zoning laws.
Councilman Scott Montgomery, who voted with the majority, said he expected other cities to take similar action.
“Only Ojai and Ventura supported taking that off the ballot,” he said. “There are eight other cities and I expect all eight or very close to that number to vote for an appeal.”
