Reuben Droughns picked up where he left off last year, scoring all three Anaheim touchdowns to lead the Colonists to a 21-14 victory over Fullerton in a nonleague game Friday night at Fullerton Stadium.

Droughns, who rushed for 258 yards and three touchdowns against Fullerton in his varsity debut as a sophomore last season, scampered 31 yards untouched for a touchdown on his first play from scrimmage. Tony Vasquez connected on his first of three conversions to give Anaheim a quick 7-0 lead.

Fullerton, hampered by two first-quarter turnovers, got going in the second quarter. The Indians put together an 81-yard scoring drive, aided by runs of 32 and 19 yards by John Wilkie and two 15-yard passes by Ryan Gregory to David Brookman and Wilkie. Christopher Young’s four-yard scoring run and Gregory’s extra point tied the score with 6 minutes 57 seconds left in the first half.

After Fullerton’s Joseph Emigh recovered a fumble, the Indians moved 37 yards to take the lead late in the first half. Gregory connected on a four-yard scoring pass to Brookman on fourth down to give Fullerton a 14-7 lead.

The Fullerton defense keyed on Droughns, who had 2,039 yards last season, and was successful for most of the game, limiting him to mostly short gains after his first run.

In the game-tying drive, Droughns carried seven times, the longest three yards, but got enough for a first down on a fourth-and-short situation and a one-yard touchdown with 5:26 left.

Daryn Leimbach gave the Colonists the opportunity to win with a fumble recovery on the Fullerton 14, and Droughns responded with a 14-yard touchdown run to give Anaheim the lead with 3:24 left in the game.
