CAMARILLO : Outstanding-Farmer Nominations Sought
Members of the Camarillo chapter of the Junior Chamber of Commerce are accepting nominations for outstanding young farmer in Ventura County.
Officials from the nonprofit group, also known as the Jaycees, said the only requirements are that the nominee be between 21 and 35 years old, live in the county and derive at least 50% of his or her income from the farming industry.
“We judge each person on their ability to help out in the agriculture community, whether it be from working in the field, processing or anything else that has to do with the agriculture industry,” said Walter Morris, a Jaycee who owns the Island Enterprises promotional firm in Camarillo.
“We’ll look at their contribution to their community as well as their own business and the industry itself,” Morris said.
The local winner will be submitted to the California Jaycees, which will honor its top five outstanding young farmers in the state at a reception in November.
At that time, Morris said, the state finalist will be named and submitted to the national competition for outstanding young farmer.
Nomination forms can be obtained by calling 389-5285.
