Wang’s Running Does the Trick
BURBANK — Calabasas High running back Steve Wang rushed for 151 yards in nine carries and scored on a 71-yard run to key the Coyotes’ 17-7 nonleague win over Bell-Jeff Saturday night at Burroughs High.
A swarming Calabasas defense ensured the victory with three sacks of Bell-Jeff quarterback Richard Szeptycki in the second half. Szeptycki completed five of 12 passes for 119 yards. Calabasas couldn’t put together an effective passing attack, but that mattered little. Wang and running back Jeremy Kline ran through the Bell-Jeff defense.
Bell-Jeff’s James Jackson scored on a four-yard run in the first quarter to give the Guards a 7-0 lead.
Calabasas kicker Damon McLaren hit a 37-yard field goal to close the deficit to 7-3. Pat Smith’s one-yard touchdown run gave Calabasas a 17-7 lead in the fourth quarter.
