Color It Fall in California
Although leaf-peepers often think they have to go East to see spectacular fall color, some of California’s finest fall colors can usually be found in the historic Gold Rush towns of Grass Valley and Nevada City and along the 160-mile Yuba-Donner Scenic Byway, a looped route that goes through the Tahoe National Forest.
Peak color weeks are difficult to predict, but tourism sources say mid-October to early November is usually the most colorful period. Color tour maps are available and visitors may call ahead to check conditions.
