Preview ’94 : Frontier Doves and Hawks : SYNDICATED FARE INCLUDES MORE CELEB-HOSTED TALK SHOWS
This year, the networks and syndicators are offering new talk shows--including entries from actresses Marilu Henner and Suzanne Somers--two courtroom reality-based series, competition shows in the “American Gladiators” vein and several new hour-long dramatic series, including “Lonesome Dove: The Series” and the frontier program “Hawkeye.” Gone from last season are several highly touted talk shows including “Shirley,” “Les Brown” and “Bertice Berry” and the action dramas “Cobra” and “Acapulco H.E.A.T.”
Here are the highlights of what’s coming to Southland stations along with their time slots and premiere dates:

“The Other Side With Dr. Will Miller”: Nick at Nite’s resident TV commentator gets his own network talk show. Mid-October.

“Entertainment Tonight”: The long-running entertainment news magazine moves from KNBC. Weeknights at 7:30 p.m. (Also KFMB at 7 p.m.)
“Lifestyles with Robin Leach and Shari Belafonte”: Long-running series has been redefined for the ‘90s with a new look, new name and new co-host. Sundays at 11 a.m. Premieres Sunday. (Also KNSD Sundays at 11:30 p.m.)
“Family Feud”: Richard Dawson returns to hosting this new syndicated version of the game show. Weekdays at 9 a.m. Premieres Monday. (Also KNSD weekdays at 9 a.m.)
“Hard Copy”: The tabloid magazine moves from KNBC. Weeknights at 7 p.m. Premieres Monday.
“High Tide”: Rick Springfield and George Segal star in a buddy action-adventure series. Sundays at 4:30 p.m. Premieres Sept. 25. (Also Saturdays at 2 p.m. on KUSI, Sept. 24).

“EXTRA-The Entertainment Magazine”: Warner Bros.’ new weeknight entertainment magazine hopes to give “E.T.” a run for its money. Arthel Neville and Dave Nemeth hosts. Weeknights at 7 p.m.; Sundays at 6 p.m. (also weeknights at 6:30 p.m. on KUSI; Saturdays at 5 p.m.).
“Marilu”: Marilu Henner (‘Evening Shade”) headlines her own daily chat show. Weekdays at 9 a.m. Premieres Monday.
“The New Price is Right”: Doug Davidson hosts a new version of the classic game show featuring different models, sets and lavish prizes. Weeknights at 7:30 p.m. Premieres Monday.
“Emergency Call”: Men and women in the emergency professions. Saturdays at 4 p.m. (Also KNSD Sundays at 5 p.m.)

“Forever Knight”: Popular CBS late-night series moves to syndication. Geraint Wyn Davies stars as a 13th-Century vampire living in a modern city who, in order to regain his mortality, must fight crime on behalf of a big city police force. Sundays at 11:30 p.m. Premieres Sept. 18. (Also Sundays at 11:35 p.m. on KUSI, Sept. 18).
“The Road”: Series features 70 country artists who were filmed in different cities. Artists include Vince Gill, Reba McEntire and Clint Black. Saturdays at 9 p.m. Premieres Sept. 24. (Also Saturdays at 5 p.m. on KUSI, Sept. 24).

“Marilyn Kagan”: KFI’s psychoanalyst goes the TV talk-show route. Weekdays at 9 a.m. Premieres Monday.
“Judge For Yourself”: Bill Handle hosts a new series--a combination of talk show and courtroom drama. Weekdays at 2 p.m. Premieres Monday. (Also weekdays at 1 p.m. on KUSI.)
‘Susan Powter”: The “Stop the Insanity” motivational speaker gets her own talk show. Weeknights at 5 p.m. (Also KUSI at 12:30 p.m.) Premieres Sept. 19.
“Jones & Jury”: Former NBC legal correspondent and New York Assistant District Attorney, Star Jones, hosts this new series: a combination of talk show and court show. Weeknights at 5:30 p.m. Premieres Monday. (Also weekdays at 12:30 a.m. on KFMB).
“Top Cops”: Reality-based series dealing with cops. Weeknights at 7 p.m. and midnight. Premieres Monday.
“Rush Limbaugh”: The controversial talk-show host moves from KCOP. Weeknights at 7:30 p.m. Premieres Monday.
“BeachClash”: David Hirsch and Alison Armitage host a series showcasing male and female athletes competing in “exciting new sporting events” on Southern California beaches. Saturdays at 9 p.m. Premieres Sept. 19. (Also Sept. 24 at 9 a.m.; beginning Oct. 1, Saturdays at 10 a.m. on KUSI).
“Blade Warrior”: The country’s best in-line skaters. Saturdays at noon. Premieres Oct. 1 . (Also on KUSI).
“Extraordinary”: A reality-based “Twilight Zone” series which examines the supernatural, ESP and other unexplained phenomena. Saturdays at 10 p.m. Premieres Oct. 1.
“The Wild West Showdown”: New series from the makers of “American Gladiators” features three contestants who are given the chance to live out their cowboy fantasies in a western-style competition. Sundays at 1 p.m. Premieres Oct. 2.

“The Gordon Elliott Show”: Former “CBS This Morning Anchor” throws his hat into the talk show arena. Weekdays at 10 a.m. Premieres Monday.
“The Dennis Prager Show”: Veteran radio talk show host comes to TV. Weekdays at 11 a.m. Premieres Monday. (Also weekdays at 1 a.m. on XETV).
“Trauma Center”: Reality series follows several different hospital patients, chronicling their lives from admittance and treatment to convalescence and recovery. Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. Premieres Saturday. (Also Sundays at 5 p.m. on KFMB, beginning Sept. 17).
“Sightings”: Tim White hosts a one-hour weekly news magazine on paranormal phenomena and supernatural activity. Sundays at 6 p.m. Premieres Sept. 18. (Also Saturday at 10 p.m. on XETV).

“Heaven Help Us”: John Schneider, Melinda Clarke and Ricardo Montalban star in Aaron Spelling’s series. Thursdays at 8 p.m. Already premiered. (Also Sundays at 7 p.m. on KUSI).
“Robin’s Hoods”: Spelling series stars Linda Purl as a widow who inherits her husband’s nightclub. Thursdays at 9 p.m. Already premiered. (Also Sundays at 8 p.m. on KUSI).
“The Suzanne Somers Show”: The star of ABC’s “Step By Step” hosts a new daily talk show which promises not to be “tabloid or sleaze.” Weekdays at 1 p.m. (Also weekdays at 2 p.m. on KUSI). Premieres Monday
“Last Call”: Irreverent look at the events of the day from Brandon Tartikoff; Brianne Leary hosts. Weeknights at 10:30 p.m. Premieres Monday. (Also weeknights at 11:30 p.m. on XETV).
“The Newz”: A comedy troupe of nine performs a blend of sketch comedy, parodies of “newzworthy” events and short films. Weeknights at 11 p.m. Premieres Monday. (Also on XETV).
“The Jon Stewart Show”: The comic’s MTV talk show garnered a lot of attention. Will he make the leap into syndication as Arsenio Hall’s replacement? Weeknights at midnight. Premieres Monday. (Also on XETV).
“Hawkeye: The First Frontier”: Lee Horsley and Lynda Carter star in Stephen J. Cannell’s series, inspired by James Fenimore Cooper’s frontier hero. Premieres Sept. 24 at 8 p.m.; moves to regular time slot, Saturdays at 10 p.m. Premieres Sept. 24. (Also Saturdays at 7 p.m. on KUSI. Sept. 17).
“Sirens”: The 1993 ABC action-drama resurfaces in syndication. Adrienne-Joi Johnson, Liza Snyder and Jayne Heitmeyer play three rookies with the Pittsburgh Police. Saturdays at 9 p.m. (Sundays at 8 p.m. on KUSI) Premieres Sept. 23.
“Lonesome Dove: The Series”: Scott Bairstow, Diahann Carroll and Paul Le Mat star in a series based on Larry McMurtry’s novel and the two popular miniseries. Fridays at 8 p.m. (7 p.m. on KUSI) Premieres Sept. 30.
