Glenn Freitas, making his first start at quarterback, rushed for two touchdowns and linebacker Junior Faavae returned an intercepted pass 44 yards for another score Saturday night to power Hawaii to a 36-16 victory over Oregon.

Freitas rushed for 117 yards in 22 carries and completed five of 15 passes for another 92 yards.

In addition to Faavae’s interception return, Hawaii (1-1) picked off two other Danny O’Neil passes and recovered two fumbles. The turnovers resulted in two touchdowns and a field goal.

Oregon (1-1) got to within 10 points with Herman O’Berry setting up a 42-yard drive with a 52-yard return of the second-half kickoff. Ricky Whittle made it 20-10 with a one-yard run.

However, Hawaii scored the next 16 points to put the game out of reach.

O’Neil, who had a four-touchdown game against Portland State last week, was 13 of 28 for 161 yards with 134 coming in the second half.

In addition to the three interceptions, he was sacked twice.
