GIRLS’ TENNIS ROUNDUP
In nonleague girls’ tennis:
Katella 9, Connelly 9 (Katella wins in games, 71-69)--Patty Villaroman won, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1, and Kristen Sakamoto won, 6-1, 6-4, 6-0, for Katella (1-1).
Rosary 11, Sunny Hills 7--Cheryl Hamilton and Colleen Coady swept at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-3, and Amanda Mroz and Lauren Ayrich swept at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2, to lead host Rosary (3-0).
Troy 9, Kennedy 9 (Troy wins in games, 80-77)--Troy sophomore Jenny Wong swept her sets, 6-6, 6-2, 6-2, defeating two players she lost to last year. Freshman Irene Noguchi won her first varsity set, 6-4, beating Kennedy’s No. 1 singles player Erin Kubota.
Los Alamitos 9, Corona del Mar 9 (Los Alamitos wins in games 76-66)--Melissa Rosenthal and Danielle Brandlin each won her last two sets as Los Alamitos won in the season-opener for both teams.
Irvine 10, Foothill 8--Star Connolly swept her sets, 6-4, 6-2, 6-4, in the victory for Irvine (2-1).
El Modena 9, El Dorado 9 (El Modena wins in games, 69-61)--Amy Medlin and Brandi and Holli Freudenberg swept in singles to lead El Modena (1-2). Medlin didn’t lose a game, Brandi won, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, and Holli won, 7-5, 6-0, 6-0.
