BREA : Police Golf Tourney Reservations Open
Registration is being accepted through Oct. 3 for the annual Brea Police Athletic League golf tournament. Proceeds will support local charities.
The tournament will be Friday morning, Oct. 14, at Birch Hills Golf Course in Brea.
A traditional aspect of the community event is that participants are allowed to bring only three golf clubs onto the course.
“It’s not only a fun tournament, it gives people in the community a different view of the police,” said tournament director Tom Flenniken, a sergeant with the Brea Police Department. He pointed out that many residents interact with police officers only when the police are issuing citations or taking crime reports.
The tournament features cash prizes for golfers whose drives land nearest the pins on par three holes. Prizes will also be presented for the longest drives on par four holes, and for the longest successful putt on the 18th hole.
Entry fees are $40 per player, which includes 18 holes of golf, food and refreshments. The tournament is limited to 152 players.
Additional information is available from Flenniken at (714) 990-7609.
