COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Chapman Ties Claremont, 3-3
Chapman rallied to tie Claremont, 3-3, in a men’s nonconference soccer game Wednesday at Chapman.
Eric Hurtarte, assisted by his brother, Gary, scored Chapman’s second goal at the 87-minute mark to tie the score and send it into overtime.
Claremont’s Ryan St. George scored 11 minutes into overtime to take the lead, but Ryan Murff of Chapman (2-1-1) tied the score with less than two minutes remaining in the final overtime period. Claremont is 3-0-1.
In women’s nonconference soccer:
Chapman 2, UC Santa Cruz 1--Cindy LeClair scored a goal and assisted on Amy Feniello’s goal for Chapman (3-1).
Pepperdine 2, UC Irvine 1--Anteater Shawna Berke’s second-half score came too late to catch Pepperdine. Former Orange High standout Debbie Ford scored Pepperdine’s first goal and Jennifer Evans had the second goal. Stephanie Boes had five saves for UC Irvine (2-2).
San Diego State 3, Cal State Fullerton 2--San Diego State’s Reese Cicchinelli clinched the victory with a goal in the last two minutes. Amber Thompson and Jennifer Patterson, with assists from Erin Rico and Debbie Klein, scored for the Titans. Cal State Fullerton is 1-3.
In women’s nonconference volleyball:
Concordia 3, Redlands 2--Amy Bonacorsi led Concordia (8-3) with 17 kills in its 12-15, 15-8, 15-1, 7-15, 15-6 victory. Teammate Elani Collais added 15. Redlands is 3-4.
Southern California College 3, Claremont 0--Simone Burgesmeir had 13 kills to lead the Vanguards in its victory over Claremont, 15-8, 15-10, 15-9. SCC improves to 9-1.
