Brea-Olinda 13, Laguna Beach 5--The fifth-ranked Wildcats scored 10 first-half goals in their victory over Laguna Beach (4-1). Brea-Olinda (2-0), ranked first in Division VI, was led by Tad Murphy with five goals and Mo Degenhardt with three. Goalie Tim Bischel had 12 saves for the Wildcats.

Cypress 18, Downey Warren 12--Dave Watkins had seven goals and Erik Sandvig had four to lead host Cypress (1-0) in its opening game of the season.

Hacienda Heights Wilson 24, Buena Park 11--Buena Park unraveled in the third quarter after three key players fouled out. Daniel Vanchu led Buena Park with four goals and Gregg Petrisevac added two in the first half and also had eight saves while playing goalkeeper in the second half. Buena Park is 0-1.

University 11, Irvine 10--Led by Jay Nunez with three goals, University was able to hold off Irvine’s fourth-quarter scoring drive to win its season opener. Erik Hugstead, Geoff Tipper, Dan Hayes and Mark McGill each added two for University.
