Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Woman, 41, Loses Control of Car, Dies in Crash
SANTA CLARITA — A 41-year-old Valencia woman driving 80 m.p.h. died Thursday after losing control of her car and crashing into a utility pole, authorities said.
The single-car accident occurred about 2:50 p.m. on Pico Canyon Road just west of The Old Road, said Officer Wendy Moore of the California Highway Patrol. The woman, identified as Ann Elizabeth Gomez, was driving a Pontiac Grand Am westbound when she drove onto the right dirt shoulder and struck the pole.
Moore said Gomez apparently was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown out the back window of the car. Gomez was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
CHP officers closed Pico Canyon Road for more than an hour.
