Dukes Beat Canadians, Win the Pacific Coast League Title

Don Barbara drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning as the Albuquerque Dukes beat the Vancouver Canadians, 3-2, on Saturday to win the Pacific Coast League title.

Al Osuna pitched 3 2/3 innings of one-hit relief and Antonio Osuma got the final two outs for the save.

Albuquerque beat Vancouver, 2-0, in 11 innings on Friday night to force the fifth game.

The Dukes, managed by former Dodger catcher Rick Dempsey, are the top farm club of the Dodgers, and the Canadians are the Angels’ triple-A team.

Albuquerque took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Ron Coomer’s infield groundout. Vancouver tied the score in the fourth on designated hitter Luis Raven’s leadoff homer and took the lead on P.J. Forbes’ sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Billy Ashley tied the score in the sixth with an RBI groundout before Barbara’s sacrifice fly.

Vancouver starter Shad Williams took the loss.
