PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Miller’s Availability Questionable

Ram quarterback Chris Miller, who has a sore shoulder and ribs, will not throw in practice today, raising more questions about his status for Sunday’s game at Kansas City.

“(Backup quarterback Chris) Chandler will get the work that Miller usually gets,” Coach Chuck Knox said.

Third-string quarterback Tommy Maddox, who has run the scout squad and was inactive for the first three games, will work with the top offensive units as a backup for the first time. The Rams traded a fourth-round draft pick to the Denver Broncos Aug. 27 to get Maddox, a former UCLA standout.

“Tommy has a live arm and is an accurate thrower,” Knox said. “He has picked up the knowledge of the offense very, very well.”

The Rams, seeking a receiver to replace an injured Richard Buchanan, are expected to re-sign Todd Kinchen today.

The Rams cut Kinchen, a third-year pro, on Sept. 6 to make room for cornerback Darryl Henley.

Coaches worked Kinchen out Tuesday at Rams Park in hopes he can replace Buchanan, sidelined two to three weeks because of a pulled hamstring.

Kinchen, who recently had a tryout in Miami, had suffered a pulled hamstring before the start of the season but was cleared to practice the day he was cut.

If Kinchen signs, the Rams probably will free a roster spot by placing left guard Keith Loneker, who suffered a fallen left arch against Atlanta, on the injured-reserve list.
