With backup right tackle Darryl Ashmore out with a sprained medial collateral knee ligament, rookie Wayne Gandy will back up both left tackle Clarence Jones and right tackle Jackie Slater.

Gandy, a first-round draft pick who has struggled in the first three games, got most of his work in practice at right tackle.

“I was a swing tackle at Auburn so I’m not foreign to the position,” said Gandy, whom the Rams took 16th overall in last April’s draft. “We’re pretty thin right now, so everybody’s having to chip in and learn all the positions. Coach says he’s going to get me out there, hopefully.”

As expected, the Rams re-signed wide receiver Todd Kinchen and put left guard Keith Loneker (fallen left arch) on the injured-reserve list. The Rams also worked out offensive lineman Roosevelt Patterson, a free-agent from Alabama.
