WESTWOOD : Driver Held After Crash Kills 1, Hurts 4
A speeding Jeep overturned on Sunset Boulevard early Tuesday, killing one passenger and injuring four others, police said.
The driver, Paul Hadley, 23, of Westwood, was booked on suspicion of felony manslaughter and held on $35,000 bail, said Los Angeles Police Officer David Kennedy. Police said they suspect Hadley was intoxicated.
A 23-year-old man whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives died at UCLA Medical Center, Kennedy said.
Three other men and a woman, all in their 20s, suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, Kennedy said.
Witnesses said the Jeep, estimated to be traveling at more than 60 m.p.h.--with the top and sides removed--was westbound on Sunset Boulevard at Bellagio Road about 2:25 a.m. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and it overturned, tossing out five passengers, LAPD Sgt. Doug Laird said.
Hadley, who was uninjured, was the only one in the car wearing a seat belt and was not thrown from the vehicle, Laird said.
