Behind a well-oiled offense and the running of Reginald Wilkes and Fred Polito, who replaced injured starter Cory Bowen, Moorpark College buried West Los Angeles, 39-0, Saturday night in a Western State Conference, interdivisional game.

Polito ran for 70 yards and two touchdowns and Wilkes tacked on 63 yards and a touchdown as the Raiders (1-1 overall, 1-0 in conference play) took advantage of consistently superb field position.

West L.A. (0-3, 0-3) was shut out for the second time in three weeks and has lost six in a row dating to last season. The Oilers could muster only 48 yards of total offense against a swarming Moorpark defense that recorded five sacks and had one interception.

The Raiders’ Steve Sabbe opened the floodgates with a 34-yard field goal 10 minutes into the game.

Wilkes scored on a 12-yard run, quarterback Damian Delfino threw a 54-yard scoring pass to Gary Clemons and Sabe added a 26-yard field goal to make the score 18-0 at the half.

After the intermission, Isaiah Mustafa hauled in a 49-yard touchdown pass from Jeremie Watkins and Polito rumbled for scores on two- and 11-yard runs.

Delfino completed seven of 10 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown, and understudy Watkins was five of eight for 92 yards and a touchdown. Mustafa, a track decathlete, caught 10 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown.

West L.A.’s best numbers on a bad night came from tailback Michael Black who, after sitting out the first half for fighting in last week’s game against Valley, gained 44 yards in six carries, all in the third quarter.

Oiler wide receiver Ron Peebles caught four passes for 20 yards and starting quarterback Ennis Powell could complete only three passes in six attempts for 16 yards.
