A summary of selected City Hall actions last week that affect the Westside.

CITY COUNCIL

* POLICE DONATION--Accepted a $15,500 donation from the Patrons of the Children organization to be used to modify the juvenile division’s victim interview rooms at the Police Department’s Parker Center headquarters. The three small rooms currently used would be converted into two soundproof rooms with improved decor. Police say they expect the changes will put victims more at ease, which will enable police to obtain better interviews.

* MASK FESTIVAL--Approved the closure of Wilshire Boulevard between Cochran and Cloverdale avenues, the closure of Cochran Avenue between Wilshire Boulevard and 8th Street, and the closure of Cloverdale Avenue between Wilshire Boulevard and 8th Street on Oct. 16 from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the Craft and Folk Art Museum’s Festival of the Masks.

* NUISANCE ALLEY--Declared the alley and walkway bounded by Redondo Boulevard, 21st Street, Cloverdale Avenue and Bangor Street to be a public nuisance because of recurring drug dealing, vandalism and illegal dumping. Instructed the city engineer to initiate proceedings to close it.
