ORANGE COUNTY
Airline Slots at John Wayne: The Orange County Airport Commission will consider on Wednesday whether to recommend a proposal that would allow new airlines to start service at John Wayne Airport by affiliating with carriers that already operate there. The proposal was prompted by Reno Air, which wanted to acquire landing slots under an agreement with American Airlines that would have allowed it to begin offering service between Orange County and San Jose. That arrangement drew protests from other carriers and intervention by federal authorities. Officials at John Wayne, which limits flights to meet strict noise regulations, say they hope the new plan will allow low-fare carriers to offer service that would give passengers more options. The commission will meet at 7 p.m. in the Thomas F. Riley Terminal building at the airport.
