HUNTINGTON BEACH : Golden West College Gets New Safety Chief
Greg King, 45, a retired Falls Church, Va., police officer, is the new chief of safety at Golden West College. He replaces Harry Palmer, who in June took the police chief position at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo.
King served for more than 20 years in the Falls Church Police Department before his retirement this year as commander of field operations.
“I retired from the police force, but I didn’t want to retire from life,” King said. “My goal was to remain in law enforcement in an academic environment.”
A former U.S. Army staff sergeant, he served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. He holds a master’s degree in management and is a graduate of law enforcement training at the FBI Academy.
“Chief King brings a wealth of professional experience to the safety and security function of Golden West College,” President Philip Westin said. “I’m confident in his abilities to provide a secure environment for the 13,000 students as well as faculty and staff at Golden West College.”
