World IN BRIEF : SPAIN : Group of Seven Cautiously Upbeat

The world’s seven richest industrial nations gave themselves a hearty pat on the back in Madrid, declaring the global recession over but warning that more had to be done to produce sustained growth. The Group of Seven--the United States, Japan, Germany, Britain, France, Italy and Canada--said the shift from slump to growth reflected the successful implementation of a growth strategy adopted in April last year.
