Mitsubishi Electric America said two of the company’s affiliates will merge.

Mitsubishi Consumer Electronics America, with operations in Santa Ana and Braselton, Ga., will combine electronics manufacturing and marketing activities with Mitsubishi Electronics America. The new company will be based in Norcross, Ga., and will keep the Mitsubishi Consumer Electronics America name. It will handle audio-video products and cellular telephones.

MCEA will keep its current operations in Santa Ana, the company said Friday.

Mitsubishi Electronics’ chairman, Takeo Iinuma, said the merger will take effect Jan. 1. The company’s Consumer Electronics Group will combine its marketing and operations resources with MCEA’s TV engineering and manufacturing facilities.

“This restructuring will provide a substantial means for increasing our profitability and competitiveness in the U.S. market,” Iinuma said.
