Police Official Indicted in Sex Scandal Case
An alleged sex scandal involving a member of Congress widened Monday when the chief press spokesman for the Chicago Police Department was indicted on charges related to the case.
Billy Davis, the police public information officer, was indicted by a Cook County grand jury on charges of official misconduct. The indictment alleged that he tipped Rep. Mel Reynolds to an investigation before the freshman Democrat’s indictment on statutory rape and other charges in August.
In addition, the indictments contend that Davis failed to tell his superiors that he knew of Reynolds’ activities.
Davis, who once did public relations work for Reynolds, told reporters: “I am not guilty of the charges.”
Reynolds has pleaded not guilty to charges contained in a 20-count indictment that alleges he had an affair with a 16-year-old campaign worker two years ago.
Reynolds, who is married, has denied having sexual intercourse with the girl.
