Children’s Software: Western Publishing Co., publisher of children’s Golden Books, has introduced Step Ahead software, “edutainment” software that complements the Golden Books Step Ahead workbooks.

The five-title series teaches math and language skills for children ages 3 to 8. The series includes “ABC With Hickory and Me,” which teaches letter-sound relationships, and “123 With Hickory and Me,” which teaches simple math skills. Both are designed for younger children.

“Monker’s Math Factory” and “Monker’s Spelling Submarine” are designed for children ages 6 to 8. “AJ’s World of Discovery,” which deals with more sophisticated cognitive skills, including reasoning, memory, logic and creativity, is also designed for children up to age 8.

The software is available in children’s book departments of major discount and chain stores for less than $25.
