COMPTON : School Board Seeking Dymally Replacement

School officials are accepting applications to fill the seat formerly held by Lynn Dymally, who was ousted last month after she had not attended a school board meeting in a year.

A committee of community members will screen the applicants. The filing deadline is Wednesday.

Board officials are expected to announce a successor to Dymally at their Nov. 8 meeting. Although the board is only an advisory body to state-appointed administrator Jerome Harris, it has the authority to fill a vacant seat, district and county education officials said.

The new board member will serve the remainder of Dymally’s term, which is scheduled to expire in November, 1995.

Dymally was removed after several unexcused absences. She has refused to comment on her absences.

Applications for the unpaid position are available at the superintendent’s office, 604 S. Tamarind Ave. Those applying must be at least 18, a U.S. citizen and a resident in the school district.
