GLENDALE : Police Mum on Facts in City’s 2nd Slaying
While the man suspected of shooting a travel agent in her offices last week was arraigned Wednesday in Pasadena Superior Court, police remained quiet about the facts surrounding Glendale’s second homicide of the year.
Meanwhile, funeral services were scheduled for Benita Mikailian, 40, whose body was found the morning of Oct. 6 by an employee at her business, Benita’s Travel Town, at 1110 N. Brand Blvd.
Garen Zakarian, 30, of Glendale is being held without bail in the shooting. Chahe Keuroghelian, a police spokesman, would not disclose what connection police have drawn between the suspect and victim.
“The investigation is still proceeding and we cannot release any details at this point without compromising the investigation,” Keuroghelian said.
However, Keuroghelian hinted that police may still be searching for another suspect.
A memorial service for Mikailian is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church, 500 S. Central Ave., Glendale, said the Rev. Razmik Khatchadourian. Burial will be at Forest Lawn of Hollywood Hills, and a visitation will be at 4 p.m. Friday at the cemetery’s Faith Chapel.
Zakarian, who reportedly told police he is self-employed, was arrested at about 6 p.m. last Friday at his home in the 400 block of West Wilson Avenue in Glendale.
While Glendale experienced its highest homicide rate ever last year with nine killings, Mikailian is the second slaying victim in the city this year. Earlier this year, a 30-year-old man was arrested in the beating death of his 89-year-old landlady, police said.
