Hate
* Can anyone address this issue? I put forth 100% effort teaching the basics of algebra to my math classes. Recently, during my lesson, a student stood up, walked to the back of the room, and conversed with another student. I asked her to please return to her seat. She replied, “My friend has to explain it to me since you won’t because I’m black.”
Her classmates of all races told her she was way out of line. I knew there was no truth to her accusation. But I also know that our classrooms are full of students who come to school every day dragged down by this self-defeating attitude.
“You have to be carefully taught” how to hate, says the haunting song from “South Pacific.” Why do parents teach their children to hate teachers?
