Twenty-foot-tall Mexican fan palm trees, a fountain and fancy new light fixtures will grace a new plaza at the end of California Street in Ventura, according to a plan that city leaders approved this week.
City Council members, acting in their capacity as the city’s Redevelopment Agency, voted 6 to 0 Monday night to spend $545,000 on the project. They also told administrators to go ahead with plans to spend an additional $87,000 on a fountain for the plaza.
The 20,000-square-foot site is bordered by the Holiday Inn, Harbor Boulevard, a city parking garage and an existing beachfront promenade.
The Redevelopment Agency awarded the contract for the work to CNM Paving of Camarillo, the lowest of nine bidders.
“It should look really nice by the time it’s done,” CNM Paving President Matt Ludlow said.
