Home Birth Experience Not Without Danger
I was extremely angered by the selfishness of Joanne and Bruce Shannahoff in relating their home birth experience (“Couple Finds Birth at Home Empowering, Safe and Comfortable,” Oct. 4).
Although this couple was seemingly well-educated and well-prepared, their comments in regard to this “empowering” choice reeked of the me-generation.
Granted, birth is a natural event, but complications do arise and not infrequently. Immediate intervention by an obstetrician in a delivery room could mean the difference between life and death.
No place in the article was this most important issue addressed.
