NEWBURY PARK : Judge Reneges on Probation Promise

A porn actress from Newbury Park has shown no remorse for having sex with a 14-year-old boy, a Ventura County judge said Monday, as he reneged on his promise to keep the woman from going to prison.

Laurie Arden, 45, pleaded guilty last month to four criminal counts in connection with the case, after Superior Court Judge Charles W. Campbell Jr. promised she would get probation for her crimes.

On Monday, Campbell told Arden he could not stick to his part of the agreement and allowed her until Thursday to withdraw her guilty plea--or face a state prison sentence.

Campbell said he changed his mind after reading statements Arden made in a probation report. The judge said he was particularly distressed over one statement in which Arden said she seduced the boy because she had pity for him.

“When I read that, I thought to myself that I had made a significant mistake in saying that this person ought to be placed on probation,” Campbell said. “I can’t understand how somebody could say that.”

Arden also said in the report that the boy initiated their sexual affair.

She pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, one count of sexual penetration with a foreign object and one count of showing explicit photos to a minor.

Arden could face as many as six years in prison.
