Chunnel Fares Announced
Reservations for Eurostar, the high-speed passenger train service from London to Paris and Brussels via the English Channel tunnel, open Monday at prices that were finally released last week along with yet another start date for the service--Nov. 14.
One-way fares for the 3-hour ride through the Chunnel will range $75-$154 during the so-called “Discovery” period from Nov. 14 to Jan. 21. One-way “Discovery Special” rates are $75 per person for non-refundable, non-transferable tickets purchased 14 days in advance. Second-class “Discovery Standard” seats, which carry no restrictions, cost $123; first-class “Discovery Gold” fares, which include a meal, are $154.
Initially there will be only two round trips a day, Monday to Friday. The tunnel will continue to be closed on Saturday for engineering work. Passengers will, however, be able to travel on Sunday evenings, offering the prospect of a long weekend in any of the three cities. Reservations and information are available from Rail Europe (800) EUROSTAR or BritRail (800) 677-8585.
