Charles Chatman
Costa Mesa, Senior
Football/Running back
Chatman’s 414-yard rushing performance is made more impressive because he played the entire game at defensive back. Chatman, an All-Division VIII selection at defensive back last season, also had an interception in the 28-7 victory over Aliso Niguel. “I don’t know many guys who can play every play man-to-man on defense,” Costa Mesa Coach Myron Miller said, “and turn around and carry the ball 43 times on offense.” Those carries were mighty productive. He scored on runs of 79, 31 and 59 yards. His 414 total was four short of the Orange County single-game record set by Dana Hills’ Jim Gleed in 1979.
